The Sports Palace is one of Kazan's key sports facilities. It serves as a venue for training sessions and competitions at the Russian and international level.

It has two ice rinks, fully compliant with international sports event requirements. Before 2005, the venue was the home arena of the Ak Bars Hockey Club.

The renovation of 1998 and the subsequent preparations for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan have significantly expanded the Palace's capacity for hosting large-scale sports and cultural events. In 2016, the venue brought together international teams to compete at the World Mixed Curling Championship.
